The new owners of a beloved Bavarian restaurant had visions of a modern urban sports pub at 4000ft. We channeled his enthusiasm for beer and alpine sport heritage and preserved the European connection by leaning on the neighboring Austria for design inspiration. The result was a place that feels clean, bright — and like a good place to relive the fun of the day aprés with friends.
Brightening the space was our main goal. The main dining room was taken to the framing, peeling back faux textures and opening the space to the windows where possible. The bar and backsplash were designed to feel familiar like a microbrewery, while the slatted wood and bright color feel rooted in the alpine location. We livened up the bathroom area with a custom mural based on the logo.
We wanted those passionate about winter sports to feel that excitement after a day on the slopes. We embraced the materials of alpine equipment with elements like the custom red metal bar (built to emulate a snowcat) and nylon sound panels (inspired by 70s puffy coats). The colors are derived from the iconic Austrian ski posters of the mid-century. The back room shifts from light and family friendly, to a dark arcade for more jubilant aprés guests.
The bar design was inspired by the boxy red powder coated Pisten Bully snowcats that groom the slopes of Mt Hood when the lifts stop turning. This large bright surface is the type of risk perfect for commercial projects.
